Montana Pack Test #2: Lanikai Loop

Everyone will meet at Kailua Beach Park by the boat ramp. The test begins and ends at the stop sign at the base of the hill (your leaders will show you). Your pack must be 45 pounds and will be weighed before you start. The group will start together and each person must make it around Lanikai Loop in 45 minutes or less to pass the test.

If you do not pass the test the first time, you may take the test again. All participants must pass the test prior to arriving in Montana.

Reminders for the test:

  • Wear the pack and shoes you will wear in Montana (it is critical to practice with your gear)

  • If using water jugs and/or weights in your pack for added weight, pack clothes or a sleeping bag around them so the weight doesn't clunk around in your pack and throw off your balance

  • Hydrate the day before!

  • Wear sun protection

Montana Training Hike #2 : Waimanalo Ditch Trail (Meet at C's)

Directions to the farm from Kailua (map apps will not take you to the right location)

  • Take Kalanianaole Hwy from Kailua to Waimanalo.

  • Turn mauka (right) on Kumuhau St. (it’s just inside Waimanalo).

  • Follow Kumuhau until it intersects Waikupanaha St.

  • On the left, you will pass a fancy gate with big orange balls on the ground- keep going, and keep left!

  • We will be in the next driveway- it’s a slight left. It’s a pavement driveway and you can see a couple of little houses on the property.
