The Wild Kids after school program operates from the campus of Le Jardin Academy in Kailua, but is open to all O'ahu students. During each six-week session, we invite students of mixed ages to play in the forest together. The program is student-centered and based on the simple core principle of unstructured time outdoors. WHAT DO WE DO IN WILD KIDS?
Twice a week after school for two hours, we explore the land adjacent to campus and enjoy mud slides, scavenger hunts, hiking, tree climbing, making up games, building shelters, creating nature-based art, camouflage activities, scouting for trails, tracking birds, and searching for the magical forest elves known as "Little Greenies." In addition to our after school adventures, we invite families and friends to join us on three different weekend excursions, including various hikes on the island, snorkeling with marine biologists, and community service projects that are centered around sustainability. To culminate each session, we host a family camp-out at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens in Kaneohe.
If you have a wild imagination, a wild spirit, and care about wild places, then Wild Kids is for you!
WHO CAN JOIN?
Each session is designed for multi-age groups. However, we also hold sessions for specific grade levels. Keep an eye out for session flyers and registration!
We usually combine 3rd-4th graders and K-2nd graders for our Lower School sessions.
For our Middle School sessions, we combine 5th-7th graders to help bridge the transition from lower school to middle school. 8th grade students are paired with 9th grade students to help bridge the transition from middle school to high school.
Any child on O'ahu is eligible to join!
WHERE DO WE MEET?
Our meeting locations are listed on our session calendars and may vary depending on the time of year. However, regardless of exact location on campus, we always meet at Le Jardin Academy after school and then venture into the forest together.
Our weekend meeting locations are listed on our session calendars and vary for each session.
